This is the dramatic moment a car was left dangling on its side in the middle of a river after careering off an icy 12th Century bridge.

The driver, a man in his 50s, managed to crawl out the sun roof of his silver Honda CRV which was somehow left tilting on its side.

The wooden railings on the side of the single-track bridge were taken down by the utility vehicle, and appeared to hold it in place over the River Wey in Tilford, near Farnham in Surrey.
