This is not a mirage...

People crossing these enormous sand dunes might be forgiven for thinking they are seeing things as they stumble across a clutter of stunning blue lagoons.

But in this desert-like scene just outside the Amazon Basin in northern Brazil, the water remains due to frequent rainfall and a dense layer of rock beneath the sand.
