Egrets and zebras make unlikely friends as the birds take a break from flying to perch on their backs. The cattle egrets 'love' riding on the back of the stripey animals as it allows them to scout out hidden insects on the ground to feed on.

Photographer Richard Du Toit, 54, says the zebras at Rietvlei Nature Reserve, South Africa, don't mind the birds perching on their back and sometimes let them stay there for up to 15 minutes.
