A hungry gannet was the victim of daylight robbery when an opportunistic bird swiped its dinner in mid-air. The northern gannet was hunting close to Hermaness National Nature Reserve in the Shetland Islands when it was attacked by a great skua - known locally as a bonxie.

The skua, which is often known as "the pirate of the seas", steals food from other creatures, including gulls and terns. Wildlife photographer and author David Tipling, 51, waited patiently for 10 days...
