Tug-of-Worm... A bird struggles to give itself more leverage as the worm it starts pulling from the sand turns out to be much, much longer than expected. Standing on tip-toes, the ironically-named short-billed dowitcher - despite its long beak - really had to put its back into trying to snare its lunch.

The sandworm - measuring about 12 inches long - put up a real fight for survival, refusing to come quietly. But ultimately the shorebird produced enough power to pull the worm...
