SN_Meerkat_Lookouts_5.jpg
Four meerkats are on high alert as they stand together acting as lookouts with each one scanning a different part of the horizon. The quartet stand on their hind legs to get a good look at the landscape so that they can warn their family members if a predator approaches.

The rest of the family of around 10 adult and young meerkats were able to relax together as their 'security' kept watch. The meerkats acting as look-out are always on high alert with two of them then putting their tails straight up to let the group know a small bird was approaching.
Wildlife photographer Gerard Lacz was in Namib-Naukluft Park, Nambia, Africa, when he saw the family.SEE OUR COPY FOR DETAILS.
