SN_Caterpillar_brood_2.jpg
This unusual pattern of black and white lines covering the tree bark is actually a cluster of hundreds of caterpillars.

The fluffy white hairs surrounding each individual insect blend to give the whole group a fuzzy look.

Each little larva moves around slowly, so that the pattern changes every few minutes.
This rare sight was discovered by professional wildlife photographer and journalist Luciano Candisani.
