SN_PELICAN_WHALE_1.jpg
This is the jaw-dropping moment a whale catches a helpless pelican inside its mouth - only to open it up again to let it fly free. The giant grey whale, which can grow up to 49ft long, had its mouth open when a clueless pelican flew into it.

A huge crowd of people had gathered by the harbour to see the whales and all 'gasped' when the huge mammal shut its mouth with the pelican inside. But they breathed a huge sigh of relief and cheered when just seconds later it opened its mouth and the pelican flew away.
Rob Bishop, 67, managed to capture the remarkable sequence on his camera at Port San Luis, near Avila Beach, California. SEE OUR COPY FOR DETAILS.
