Two grebes engage in an intense battle, attacking each other with their long beaks.The birds' distinctive bright red eyes stand out as they move through the water.<br /> <br /> The pair are part of the same nesting colony and could be fighting over territory or breeding rights. The dramatic photos were taken in San Luis, California, by retired lawyer Rick Derevan who lives in Atascadero, California.
