Farmers harvest millions of lavender heads from fields striped with lines of the purple plants as far as the eye can see. Hundreds of acres of lavender grown across the Plateau de Valensole, France, is picked by farm machinery to make essential oils.<br />

After the harvest, locals and tourists will gather for a lavender festival, which focuses around the traditional distilling method used to extract the oil from the plants. Photographer Magali Chesnel, 44, from Ferney-Voltaire, France, stayed in the Provence region, which is famous for the scented plants, for four days, hoping to catch the tractors cutting the lavender on camera.
