Thousands gather to watch a traditional boat race in Bangladesh. The event, which takes place on the Jamuna River, sees hundreds of boats take part from various parts of the country. 

The vessels, which are between 155 feet to 200 feet long, can reach maximum speeds of about 35 to 45 km per hour and each boat can be manned by up to 100 people.

Rivers form an integral part of Bangladesh's history and the boat races consequently, are an important element of their culture.
