These pictures capture the rare and strange life cycle of bagworms - who use twigs to create a camouflaged pod that protect them from predators.

The bags, woven with silk, look like strange extensions of the tree and perfectly disguise the bagworm as it eats, sleeps, and matures to the level of reproduction.

Scientist Dr Mohamed Babu, 59, took the amazing images in his back garden in Mysore, India, documenting the full cycle of the unusual insect.
