Birds look like caterpillar as they huddle together by Jose Luis Rodriguez (6 images)

A group of birds sit so closely together that they look like a caterpillar crawling across a branch - but can you count how many there are? The colourful European bee-eaters are rarely seen sitting so tightly packed together and it is believed this unusual behaviour is helping them keep warm by sharing their body heat.

The small birds, who are around 20cm tall, were seen perched on a willow tree branch next to the river Adaja, near Avila, Spain, by photographer Jose Rodriguez.
