Warmer weather is believed to be the cause of luminous blue waves lighting up the sea at Littlestone, Romney Marsh, Kent. The glow is from Bioluminescent plankton, tiny organisms, which glow when they are disturbed by waves or currents as a defence mechanism to draw predators towards the creatures trying to eat the plankton.
