Hungry gannets dive into the water at speeds of up to 60mph in order to grab fish in these dramatic photographs.

Photographer and management consultant Richard Steel, 49, was able to capture shots of the gannets hunting during a series of boat trips in Liverpool Bay with fellow bird-watching enthusiasts.

The birds often circle at around 50 feet in the air in order to look for small fish in the water before plummeting at speed to catch their prey.
