Piglets grazing in the New Forest as part of the yearly pannage tradition

The pannage season which started last week takes place in early autumn and lasts for 60 days. It is where domesticated pigs are released in to the forest, so that they can eat fallen acorns, beechmast, chestnuts and the like, as these posinous to the New Forest Ponies and cattle.

New Forest is one of the few places in the UK where pannage is still practised, with only 600 pigs and piglets...
