Students of a centuries-old martial art fight toe to toe in a flooded rice field. This series of photos show competitors practising the self-defence fighting technique known as Silek - a martial art created in 1119 AD.

Silek would be passed down from generation to generation so that men who travelled could defend themselves from robbers. The photos were taken in Sawah Solok, West Sumatra, Indonesia, during a Silek competition.
