Pictured: The dead leaf mantis.
Unbe-leaf-able!

A clever insect uses the perfect disguise in order to trick its prey - by blending in as it looks exactly the same as a brown leaf.

The dead leaf mantis, formally known as the deroplatys lobata, is almost impossible to see as it walks across leaves.

Its brown colour is identical to the leaves it walks on and its stick-like figure makes it difficult to notice.

And after spotting its prey, the insect quickly decided to rise above the leaves before devouring the cricket. SEE OUR COPY FOR MORE DETAILS.
